L. Catalano Gonzaga, Giochiamo nell’acqua, 2004

For the first time the Valentina Moncada Gallery presents a charity event for childhood. The exhibition gathers almost twenty photographs of Luca Catalano Gonzaga, a communication expert, who intends to describe and valorize, throughout the simple universal language of photography, the important charity activity of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in some forgotten places around the world. Main characters of these beautiful images are children forced to very difficult social and health situations. The perfect use of black and white and the full-contrast in the shots, printed on barium papers, made more incisive the life difficulties of the poorest children “with no place in the world”, although Catalano Gonzaga managed to maintain their emotions and smiles. In this occasion one of the photos exhibited, titled “A smile for life”(2004), has been selected and inkjet printed on paper in only 100 copies to be sold. A Hundred Shots For a Hundred Smiles is part of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta Association effort to create a secondary school in Sudan to help poor girls building their future or that of their families and villages. The school will be constructed in the Rumbek diocese in south Sudan.

Patronage: Sovereign Military Order of Malta, The Mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni, The Department of Social Activities and Heath Promotion of Rome Municipality and The Honorary President of ANIMA Nicoletta Fiorucci.
